Sketches that made me Graduate !

I have been fond of sketching from my childhood but never thought it will help me in completing my graduation !
At IIIT we have to complete 5 extra curricular credits during 8 semester which is mandatory to graduate. I completed 4 credits in first 4 semesters but the legendary 5th credit never got completed in the next four semesters because of one reason or other. In the end just one month before the convocation ceremony i came to know that i haven’t received the expected 5th grade. I was supposed to get the fine art credit after submitting 1 sketch 😛 but the Instructor Deepthi Ma’am rightly found it insufficient enough. Hence i was told to do something substantial in order to complete the requirement. Following sketches are made in search of that elusive 5th grade !

And yeah i got the grade just a week before convocation !! Thats what i call a true engineering student 😉

Feels good to be graduated 😉

A trip to Shravanbelgola !!

I always wanted to visit Shravanbelgola since i arrived here in Hyderabad in 2004 but somehow i always fell short of time or may be courage. But at the time of placements i had decided that as soon as i get placed i will be heading towards the sacred place. Well not just after the placements but about a month later i mustered up the courage and headed towards Shravanbelgola with almost zero planning 🙂

First destination was Bangalore, i took the Bus from Koti Bus Station at around 8 in the night. I was supposed to reach Bangalore by 8 am next day but could reach there only by 12:30 or so, courtesy the Bus that broke down just after 2 hours of travel and could start only after 2 hours of hard work.
Till then i had just heard about Bangalore traffic but i could feel the agony of the locales when the bus took about 2 hours to reach Bangalore bus stand from the time we entered the city. Anyways after having some food there i took the bus from Bangalore to channarayapatna that took about 80 Rs and 2 hours to reach the destination. And from there i took a bus to Shravanbelgola that took about half an hour and 7 Rs 🙂

There were some amazing locations in between like this:

B'ful locations

On reaching the bus stand itself i got the first view of this exhilarating place:

After taking some pics of the place and the Bus stop i moved to Dharmshala

Dharmshala, where i stayed.

After keeping the luggage in Dharmshala i headed towards the hill for Darshan and the first view at the height was really scary as i had to complete the Trip in half an hour (as the Temple get closed by 6 PM)

Vindhyagiri Stairs

Got to know that this Hill is called Vindhyagiri and just opposite is another hill called Chandragiri and in between them is city and yeah a beautiful pond as well…

View from Vindhyagiri

And finally i reached the destination..and in front of me was the Worlds largest monolithic statue of Lord Bahubali..Wow !! how could they make it !! Fantastic..

Lord Bahubali

Well after doing the Darshan i came down the hill and headed towards the MaTha for food..After having food i visited the temples in the city..

Temple on the ground

Temple on Ground

And found one of the mot b’ful Chandra Prabhu Idol…

Chandraprabhu Bhagwaan

Surprisingly i found an internet cafe over there so I utilized the services offered 😀 and then headed to Dharmshala for rest. There i met one Mr Hansmukh Jain from Banglore (Originally from Rajasthan) and had a nice chat with him. He is a medical student.
The night at Dharmshala was terrible as the mosquitoes just didn’t spare us. They didnt leave even my eyes from biting ! and the result was the swollen eyes next day 😦
Well somehow the night got over and after getting ready in morning we decided to move to theYaatra of Chandragiri first and then Vindhyagiri…So we reached Chandragiri gate..

Chandragiri Gate

Myself (Piyush) at Chandragiri Stairs

Reached the top and did Darshan…

And then we left for Bangalore via Channarayapatna… At Bangalore Bus Stand “Majestic” i met with one of my best friend Antriksh who is working there with THBS. It was really wonderful meeting him after a long gap. We went to a Jain temple in Bangalore which was pretty close to bus stand..

And then i took a bus to Hyderabad from Bangalore at around 8:30 which eventually started at 11:00 PM !!
and reached Hyderabad next day around 12:30 PM..

And the happy journey was over 😀

Dashlakshan Dharm – Uttam Kshama & Uttam Maardav

For Meaning of all the days please click here

Dashlakshan Parv is a ten day festival. It is the biggest Jain festival. All these ten days people keep fast and involve as much as possible in religious activities like Abhishek, Pooja, Swadhyay, Dhyaan etc. During these ten days the complete atmosphere of the temple changes, it seems as if we are still in that time when everyone used to care for others and the whole society was a like one big family. The temple during these days is full of activities, it also gets decorated with Rangoli and other stuff.
Now lets see how this festival got its name “Dashlakshan Parv” and why is it of ten days duration. Dashlakshan dharm means a Dharm which has ten characteristics/qualities. Celebrating these qualities and wishing and trying to adopt them completely is the objective of this festival. Each day celebrates one of the quality of the Dashlakshan Dharm and hence the duration is ten days.
Lets see what the first two days of this Parv celebrates. And for other days i will write one post daily from now onwards denoting there importance.

Day 1 : Uttam Kshama

This day celebrates Uttam Kshama meaning Supreme Forgiveness.

Shloka :

Meaning:

Even if a lot of evil people hurt you and cause you several injuries, you should forgive them all and should not get angry on them. This supreme forgiveness should be achieved by everyone as it is beneficial ( Happiness giving) in this birth and future births as well. Even if some one abuses us or call our good qualities bad we shouldn’t feel sad for the above specified reason. Even if others steal our belongings or hurt us, we should not keep any enmity with them. Because we have got to bear the result of the ill deeds (Paap)/ Sin that we committed in our past. If we again get angry on such occasions then we will continue to wander in this world accumulating more karm. We should extinguish the fire of anger with the water of equanimity and control.

Day 2 : Uttam Maardav

This day celebrates Uttam Maardav meaning Supreme Tenderness/Humility.

Shloka :

Meaning:

Proud is like venom that causes us to fall. And the nectar of humility/tenderness is incomparable. A person with this quality always gain happiness. We should try to achieve Supreme tenderness because a person who is proud has no future. And what is he proud of ? Of going to the worst place in this world (Hell)? Or of getting sold in dimes (cheap price) when it was a plant ? Or of going to the “One sense state” from the Heaven. We should always be modest as even a king with proud becomes aं small insect. All this money, property, youth etc are like a bubble of water, which are temporary and can burst anytime. If we respect our elders and the people who are knowledgeable, we will also be able to gain the true knowledge.
